Com sete anos de idade aprende a tocar bandolim com o seu pai. Durante a adolesc\u00eancia faz parte de v\u00e1rias bandas de rock entre as quais Xarhanga<\/strong> (Singles: Acid Nightmare<\/strong> e Great Goat<\/strong>) e Petrus Castrus<\/strong> (Single Marasmo<\/strong> e LP Mestre<\/strong>). A partir dos seus vinte anos (ano da revolu\u00e7\u00e3o de Abril de 74) e at\u00e9 aos trinta colabora em concertos e in\u00fameros discos com os mais importantes cantautores de Portugal destacando-se a sua colabora\u00e7\u00e3o com Jos\u00e9 Afonso<\/strong> (a partir de 79) com o qual colabora regularmente tocando em v\u00e1rios s\u00edtios do Mundo e co-produzindo os seus dois \u00faltimos discos.
Ainda nesta d\u00e9cada trabalha como m\u00fasico em alguns grupos de Teatro com encenadores como: Augusto Boal<\/strong>, \u00c1gueda Sena<\/strong> e Jo\u00e3o Perry<\/strong> . Grava os seus primeiros \u00e1lbuns de autor: Bota-Fora<\/strong>, Fernandinho vai \u00f3 vinho<\/strong>, Lisbo\u00e9mia<\/strong> e M\u00e3os de Fada<\/strong>. Em 1981 lan\u00e7a Cavaquinho<\/strong> – o seu primeiro disco instrumental \u2013 ganhando v\u00e1rios pr\u00e9mios entre os quais o da Imprensa<\/strong> e da Cr\u00edtica<\/strong>, iniciando assim o seu percurso como instrumentista.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ainda com o Bandolim, em 2008 grava o CD Geografias <\/strong>e cria um concerto com o mesmo nome. Actua em Portugal e v\u00e1rios s\u00edtios do Mundo.
Em 2010 lan\u00e7a Graffiti<\/strong> um \u00e1lbum de can\u00e7\u00f5es que conta com a participa\u00e7\u00e3o de dez cantoras, entre as quais: Dulce Pontes<\/strong>, Maria Jo\u00e3o<\/strong>, Sara Tavares<\/strong>, Olga Cerpa<\/strong> (Espanha), Nancy Vieira<\/strong> (Cabo-verde) e Luanda Cozetti<\/strong> (Brasil).
Al\u00e9m dos seus pr\u00f3prios concertos, participa na tourn\u00e9e nacional dos Timbila Muzimba <\/strong>(Mo\u00e7ambique) e destaca aquele que dirige no Th\u00e9\u00e2tre de la Ville em Paris (2012) homenagem a Jos\u00e9 Afonso<\/strong> com Ant\u00f3nio Zambujo<\/strong>, Mayra Andrade<\/strong>, Jo\u00e3o Afonso<\/strong>, etc<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Em 2013 retoma o Cavaquinho e grava o CD\/Livro Cavaquinho.pt<\/strong>. como ponto de partida para uma nova etapa dedicada a este instrumento. Actualmente \u00e9 Presidente da Associa\u00e7\u00e3o Museu Cavaquinho que visa documentar, preservar e promover a hist\u00f3ria e a pr\u00e1tica deste instrumento.
Em 2015 recebe a medalha de honra da SPA – Sociedade Portuguesa de Autores e \u00e9 condecorado com o grau de Grande-Oficial da Ordem do Infante D. Henrique.
Em 2017 publica o \u00e1lbum (LP + CD\/livro) Pra\u00e7a do Com\u00e9rcio<\/strong> com o qual recebe o pr\u00e9mio Pedro Os\u00f3rio<\/strong> da Sociedade Portuguesa de Autores e em 2018 recebe o pr\u00e9mio Jos\u00e9 Afonso<\/strong> pela C\u00e2mara Municipal da Amadora. Tamb\u00e9m neste ano participa na Womex<\/strong> (Las Palmas). Enquanto faz concertos pelo pa\u00eds, dirige em 2019, o espect\u00e1culo \u201c\u00c0 sombra n\u00e3o me quito\u201d com m\u00fasica de Jos\u00e9 Afonso no Teatro Viriato com Ant\u00f3nio Zambujo<\/strong>, Caman\u00e9<\/strong>, Carl\u00e3o<\/strong>, Sara Tavares<\/strong>, Teresa Coutinho<\/strong> e Teresa Salgueiro. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Em 2023 recebe o Pr\u00e9mio de M\u00e9rito Cultural pela Funda\u00e7\u00e3o Inatel<\/strong> e em 2024 publica o livro\/disco Rasgar<\/strong> com o qual recebe em 2025 a distin\u00e7\u00e3o de melhor disco instrumental dos Pr\u00e9mios PLAY – Pr\u00e9mios da M\u00fasica Portuguesa | Trad 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bio<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With 7 years old learn to play mandolim with his father. During the teenage years take part on several rock bands and records four albuns. From his 20’s (on the year of the April 74’s revolution) till his 30’s, collaborates – in concert and records – with the most important composers of Portugal, highlighting his collaboration with Jos\u00e9 Afonso<\/strong> – since 1979 – with whom he collaborates regularly playng in several countries of the world and co-producing his last records.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Performes in several concerts around the world, produces, orchestrates and participates as multi-instrumentist in multiple albuns of other authors and collaborates, at the same time with several names of music, such as: Pete Seeger<\/strong>, Kepa Junkera<\/strong>, Dulce Pontes<\/strong>, Mestisay<\/strong> and The Chieftains<\/strong> – Grammy Award ,1995.<\/strong> In 2006 collaborates on the film Fados, from Carlos Saura<\/strong>, with Chico Buarque<\/strong> and Carlos do Carmo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2013, he returned to the cavaquinho and recorded the album “Cavaquinho.pt<\/strong>” as the start of a new phase focused on this instrument. For this, he established the Cultural Association Museu Cavaquinho<\/strong>, which aims to document, preserve, and promote the history and practice of this instrument.
In 2015, he received the “Pedro Os\u00f3rio” award from SPA (Portuguese Society of Authors) and was decorated with the rank of Grande-Oficial (Grand-Officer) of the Order of Infante D. Henrique. In 2017, he recorded “Pra\u00e7a do Com\u00e9rcio<\/strong>” and received the Pedro Os\u00f3rio award from SPA (Portuguese Society of Authors) and the Jos\u00e9 Afonso award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2024, he received the Cultural Merit Award from the Inatel Foundation and published the book\/album Rasgar<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
